Solitary Endurance Cancelled

Loretta Swit’s Steady Presence During David Ogden Stiers’ Initial Treatment
The first treatment session carries weight most individuals prefer not facing alone.
David Ogden Stiers shared this experience.
Fear present. Fatigue present. Attempts at maintaining composure evident.
Loretta Swit declined allowing isolation.
That morning, she arrived at his residence, prepared.
“Loretta, transportation unnecessary,” David expressed gently. “Waiting elsewhere sufficient. Recovery will occur.”
“Waiting elsewhere insufficient,” she responded. “Vehicle entry. Departure now.”
Upon arrival, before treatment commencement, David attempted again.
“Waiting area appropriate. Refreshment available—”
“Presence continuing,” she stated. “Discussion concluded.”
Presence continued.
As medical procedure initiated, Loretta positioned nearby, hand contact occurring.
Extended time passed.
Physical response emerged.
“Loretta… departure appropriate,” David expressed with discomfort. “This presentation undesired.”
“Presentation observed,” she responded, maintaining contact. “Departure not occurring.”
Physical distress occurred. Support provided.
No hesitation. No altered expression. Consistent, determined care.
“Embarrassment present,” he murmured.
“Embarrassment inappropriate,” she responded gently. “Treatment continuation represents courage. Not embarrassment.”
Extended duration occurred.
Throughout this period, Loretta Swit maintained connection.
Within production, colleagues existed.
Within that environment, deeper connection existed:
Family.

Treatment concluded. Fluid transfer ceased.
Silence replaced the mechanical hum.

David experienced profound exhaustion. Physical depletion was evident.
Movement required significant effort.

Loretta initiated action. Coat retrieved. Arm offered.

“Navigation assistance available,” she stated.

David accepted the support.
Pride surrendered. Reality acknowledged.

Slow progression toward the exit occurred.

Vehicle journey remained quiet. Rest was facilitated.
Upon residence arrival, the interior transition was managed.

Sofa utilized. Blanket positioned.

David observed Loretta. She did not gather her belongings. She did not check the time.

“Obligation fulfilled,” he whispered, his voice fragile. “Gratitude extended. Return home acceptable.”

Loretta ceased movement. Eye contact established.

“Obligation non-existent,” she corrected. “Commitment present.”

She relocated to the kitchen area.

“Tea preparation commencing. Rest advised.”

Water heated. Cups arranged.
Familiar sounds filling the quiet house.

David closed his eyes.

Fear remained. Illness remained.
However, isolation was eradicated.

Subsequent treatments were scheduled. Difficulties were anticipated.
But solitary endurance was officially cancelled.

Major Winchester never required protection.
David Ogden Stiers required it.
Loretta Swit provided it.

Script absent. Cameras absent.

Enduring presence confirmed.
